Oulton Academy Remembers: A Day of Solemn Respect and Heartfelt Honour

Oulton Academy came together today to pay a moving tribute to the fallen heroes of conflict, marking Remembrance Day 2025 with a series of poignant and heartfelt activities that resonated across the school community.

The day's events were anchored by a powerful and unifying moment: an observed 2-minute silence. Students and staff stood in quiet contemplation to remember the immense sacrifices made by service men and women across the generations. The silence was a powerful testament to the Academy's deep respect for those who gave their lives in the pursuit of peace and freedom.

Beyond this moment of quiet reflection, the spirit of service and community was alive and well in school. In the lead-up to the day, a dedicated team of students spearheaded an admirable fundraising effort for the Royal British Legion (RBL). With enthusiasm and dedication, they sold the RBL's iconic paper poppies, alongside specially commissioned keyrings, successfully raising vital funds to support veterans and their families. Every poppy worn and every keyring sold was a small but significant act of gratitude and support.

The day culminated in a deeply moving wreath-laying ceremony, a powerful symbol of enduring remembrance. Two Year 7 students, chosen for their commitment and respect, joined Principal, Mr. Higgins, at this solemn occasion.

As the wreath was laid, our very own Mr. Robertson played the "The Last Post".  His performance added a deeply personal and powerful layer to an already significant event.
