Inspiring Futures: Leeds Maths School Principal Visits Top Set GCSE Students
Mr. Wilne, the esteemed Principal of Leeds Maths School (LMAS), recently visited our academy to engage with our top set GCSE maths students. The special presentation provided an invaluable insight into the world of advanced mathematics and the unique opportunities available at LMAS.
The session began with an informative presentation where Mr. Wilne highlighted the significant benefits of attending a specialist maths school. He outlined how the tailored curriculum and focus on problem-solving equip students with the skills needed for success in maths-related fields, encouraging our high-achievers to consider their future educational pathways.
He also described the range of extracurricular projects students can get involved in including the prestigious "Big Three" sports of rowing at Lemonroyd Marina, volleyball, and karate, as well as participating in a mock-Bar trial, the Formula 1 F1 in Schools competition, and other music and sports activities.
Following the presentation, Mr. Wilne delivered an inspiring mini-lesson. Designed to ignite passion and curiosity, the lesson focused on real-world applications of higher-level mathematics. Students were captivated by examples of how maths underpins diverse careers, from data science and engineering to finance and research.
The visit left our students motivated and with a clearer vision of the exciting career possibilities that a strong foundation in mathematics can unlock. We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Wilne for taking the time to inspire the next generation of mathematicians at our school.
