Oulton Academy Closure Extended to 10th January

Dear Parents/Carers,

We regret to inform you that Oulton Academy will remain closed tomorrow, Friday 10th January, due to ongoing hazardous conditions on our site. Following a full site survey again today by the Principal and site team, there has been little improvement due to below zero temperatures.

Oulton is a unique site in that the height difference from West Block to East Block is approximately 3.5m, therefore, all the ice thawing in the brief hours of sunlight, is running slowly down towards East Block but re-freezing in different pockets overnight. The drainage of the old building is inadequate, so causing further issues; it has felt like an almost impossible task for the site team and volunteers to clear, as gritted areas also re-freeze. They will continue to work over the weekend as temperatures slowly increase, to clear the remaining ice in readiness for opening on Monday.

An email and text message will be issued on Sunday evening to advise the latest situation. Thank you once again for your understanding and patience at this time.
