From School2Site – Point Cross Construction Site

The construction industry is a major sector in the labour market and is made up of a huge variety of jobs. To encourage girls to join the industry, the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) invited our students to visit the Point Cross building site (Leeds 10) which is being developed by United Living. 

Firstly, the girls received a safety induction and donned their PPE. They then had the opportunity to tour the site, looking at partially completed apartments whilst learning about the various stages of a development project. 

The girls then took part in a spaghetti-construction challenge and asked questions about the vast number of jobs that had been shown and described during the day. 

Oulton Academy would like to thank the team at United Living and NAWIC for providing our students with such a fabulous opportunity to learn about the variety of options open to young people if they choose a career in construction.
