Oulton Academy Eco Team Collaborates on New School Build

This week, members of Oulton Academy’s award-winning Eco Team joined Principal John Higgins for an exclusive tour of the new school building plans. The event showcased the academy's commitment to sustainability and student involvement in shaping their learning environment.

During the session, the Eco Team had the opportunity to review the architectural plans for the new facility and propose sustainability features. The group, recognised for its dedication to environmental initiatives, eagerly explored ways to make the building more eco-friendly.

Principal John Higgins explained the layout to the group, encouraging them to dissect the plans and share their passion for sustainability. “We want our students to have a voice in this project,” said Higgins. “It’s important they feel empowered to contribute to the design of a building they’ll soon call home, while also promoting the values of environmental responsibility.”

Seb F, a member of the Eco Team, expressed his excitement: “It’s very cool we’ve been able to see these plans and offer some ideas to our new school.”

Violet F added, “It’s exciting to think we’ll see these ideas in our school when it’s built, and I’ll be here!”

Mr. Thornton, the Eco Team coordinator, also expressed his enthusiasm. “What a fantastic gesture to have our group involved in the process and share some of the insights they have regarding sustainability. I have an enormous sense of pride in our group and this privilege. With this chance to dissect the plans, it’s just further evidence that at Oulton Academy, students are given a platform to shape all elements of their education.”

The collaborative session marks a significant step forward in the academy's ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into all aspects of school life, ensuring that the new build will reflect the academy’s values and the voices of its students.
