Restart a Heart Day 2024: Empowering Students with Lifesaving Skills

Today, our academy proudly hosted Restart a Heart Day, an event dedicated to teaching students the critical skill of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The day saw the participation of 250 students, all eager to learn how to respond in emergency situations and potentially save lives. This nationwide initiative aims to educate young people about the importance of CPR and how they can make a difference in their communities.

The day was filled with engaging sessions where students practised chest compressions and learnt how use Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). These hands-on lessons were led by trained staff and local healthcare professionals, ensuring students received expert guidance.

Principal John Higgins expressed his pride in the students' enthusiasm and commitment, stating, "Learning CPR is a skill that could mean the difference between life and death. I’m immensely proud of our students for taking this opportunity to learn how they can become heroes in their communities."

We were honoured to have Deputy Lieutenant Yvonne Stocks as a special guest for the event. Deputy Lieutenant represents the Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire and plays a role in supporting local communities, attending events, and recognising achievements throughout the region. Her presence highlighted the significance of the day, and she expressed her support for the initiative, emphasising the value of teaching young people such vital skills.

The importance of CPR cannot be overstated. When performed promptly, CPR can double or even triple a person's chance of survival during cardiac arrest. By equipping our students with these skills, we are not only preparing them to in emergencies but also fostering a sense of responsibility and care for others.

Restart a Heart Day 2024 was a resounding success, and the academy is committed to continuing this life-saving education in the years to come.
