Theatre Brings Language to Life at Oulton Academy!

Oulton Academy’s Key Stage 4 French students were treated to a unique and immersive language experience this week as a professional theatre company took to the stage to perform an engaging and hilarious play—entirely in French!

The performance, designed to bring language learning to life, was packed with humour, drama, and most importantly, audience participation. Students found themselves not only watching but also becoming part of the action, as actors encouraged them to join in, respond to questions, and even perform alongside them. This interactive approach made the experience both educational and hugely entertaining.

The event highlighted the importance of real-world language exposure and how stepping outside traditional learning methods can enhance fluency, confidence, and enthusiasm for studying languages. Research consistently shows that cultural experiences, such as theatre performances, improve language retention and engagement.

Principal Mr. John Higgins said, "At Oulton Academy, we are committed to providing our students with experiences that enrich their learning beyond the classroom. This performance is a perfect example of how language learning should be engaging and dynamic."

The excitement doesn’t stop here! Later in the year, the Spanish cohort will have their own opportunity to enjoy a Spanish-language play, ensuring all language students get to experience this unique form of immersive learning.

Bringing languages to life through theatre is just one of the many ways Oulton Academy is making education exciting, relevant, and fun. Who knows? Maybe next time, we’ll see some of our own students taking centre stage!
