Year 10 Students Stir Up Culinary Skills with Oulton Hall Partnership
In an exciting initiative designed to enrich the educational experience, Year 10 hospitality and catering students recently collaborated with culinary experts from Oulton Hall. This hands-on opportunity is part of the Leeds Hospitality and Venues Association (LHVA) effort to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the diverse world of hospitality.
During the workshop, students honed their cooking skills under the guidance of Oulton Hall's professional chefs, gaining practical knowledge that extends beyond the classroom. Principal Mr. Higgins was present to show his support, stating, “These experiences are invaluable, allowing our students to engage directly with industry professionals and understand the breadth of career opportunities available in hospitality.”
The LHVA aims to bridge the gap between education and the hospitality sector, exposing students to real-world scenarios and high standards of service. As part of this initiative, students learnt everything from menu planning to food presentation techniques, fostering both creativity and teamwork.
While the event showcased the positive impact of such partnerships, its important to note the importance of integrating more practical experiences into the curriculum. Hands-on learning is essential, especially in hospitality, where skills are best developed through practice.
As the session concluded, students left with not only enhanced cooking skills but also a newfound passion for the hospitality industry. This collaboration is a testament to the school's commitment to providing innovative learning opportunities that prepare students for future careers, ensuring they are well-equipped to excel in an ever-evolving job market.
