A Day of French Immersion at Notre Dame College

Our Year 9 French students recently enjoyed a fantastic "taster day" at Notre Dame 6th Form College, designed to immerse them in French language and culture and inspire them to continue their language studies.

The day began on a high note, with the students listening to a curated selection of contemporary Francophone music, immediately setting a vibrant, authentic atmosphere. This was followed by an engaging and insightful session focusing on the tangible benefits of studying a language like French in higher education and the numerous doors it can open for future careers.

To further enrich their cultural understanding, the group delved into the world of French cinema, watching and discussing extracts from various films. This provided a compelling look into French storytelling and artistic expression. A highlight for many was a lively and challenging translation session where students were tasked with translating character names from the beloved French version of the Harry Potter books. This interactive task was a fun way to apply their linguistic skills in a familiar context.

The day concluded with a highly competitive and fun grammar game in the IT rooms, which proved to be a popular finale to a day full of diverse activities.

Oulton Academy would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff at Notre Dame College for organising such a wonderful and educational event. Our students left feeling inspired and with a deeper appreciation for the French language and culture
