Academy Students Power Up with DRAX in Dynamic Energy Workshop

Students at Oulton Academy recently took part in an exciting and educational workshop delivered by experts from DRAX, exploring the fascinating world of energy distribution through the National Grid. The session shed light on how electricity generated from diverse sources travels across the country to power homes and businesses.

The workshop began with an insightful presentation, where DRAX volunteers explained the complexities of energy infrastructure and the growing importance of renewable power. Students then put theory into practice with a hands-on challenge: designing and building miniature paper cities in teams. Creativity and collaboration were key as they mapped out urban landscapes for the next stage of the activity.

The challenge intensified with the introduction of Ozobot robots. Each team programmed their robots to navigate their custom-built city maps, combining coding skills with real-world problem-solving. This interactive task brought their designs to life and demonstrated how energy flows through intricate networks.

A central theme of the workshop was the role of renewable energy, particularly biomass, in powering modern cities. By successfully running their robot-powered cities, students gained a practical understanding of sustainable energy solutions and their importance in future power grids.

The event was a resounding success—blending science, technology, engineering, and creativity into an unforgettable learning experience.
