Oulton Academy Students Level Up at ASDA Business Project!

Our ambitious students recently returned to ASDA for the third instalment of their ongoing business project, and the energy was electric! This session shifted gears toward product development and the art of retail presentation.

Sustainability & Shelf Success

The teams worked tirelessly to evolve their initial concepts into a fully sustainable product range tailored for a specific event. Beyond the design phase, students got hands-on experience in "merchandising," learning the strategic science behind how products are placed on shelves to catch a shopper's eye.

Focus Feature: Confidence is Key

The overarching theme of the day was Confidence. As a core employability skill, building self-assurance is vital for our young people. Whether it’s applying for a first job, speaking clearly during an interview, or building professional relationships, the day was designed to push students out of their comfort zones.

Interactive Challenges

The workshop was packed with dynamic activities, including:

  • "Love the Planet" Task: Integrating eco-friendly solutions into their business models.
  • "Thinking Hat" Exercise: Using Edward de Bono’s famous technique to look at problems from different perspectives.
  • Constructive Feedback: Students pitched their progress and received expert critiques to help refine their ideas.

The Home Stretch

With only two sessions remaining—Logistics and Product Creation—the countdown to the final Judges’ Panel is officially on!
