Oulton Academy’s Poetry Stars Slam Their Way to the City Finals!

Our Year 7 students recently traded their textbooks for microphones as they took part in an electrifying Poetry Slam workshop.

The energy in the room was high as we welcomed acclaimed local poet Maria Ferguson, who kicked off the session by wowing the group with her incredible spoken-word talent. Inspired by her performance, our students were set their challenge for the day: to write and perform an original poem based on the theme ‘Play’.

Working in groups, the students delved into their creativity, exploring everything from childhood games to the importance of imagination. The standard of writing was truly fantastic, making the final judging process incredibly difficult.

While every group delivered a stellar performance, there could only be two winning teams. A huge well done to our winning groups, who have secured their spot in the grand final! They will be representing Oulton Academy on the big stage at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds city centre this April.

We are so proud of all our Year 7s for their participation and can’t wait to cheer our finalists on in the next round!
