Flying High: Year 10 Explore Careers with the RAF
Our Year 10 students traded the classroom for a taste of life in the skies this week as we welcomed the Royal Air Force for an immersive work experience morning.
The session kicked off with an eye-opening presentation from Liam, our RAF representative, who debunked the myth that the Air Force is "just for pilots."
Students were introduced to a massive range of career pathways, highlighting roles such as Engineers, Medics, Intelligence Officers, Chefs, and RAF Police. The talk focused on the reality of these roles, detailing the world-class training and travel opportunities available to young recruits.
Putting theory into practice, the students then moved into a series of high-pressure team-building activities. Tasked with complex problem-solving scenarios, our Year 10s had to:
- Collaborate to find and plan the most efficient solutions.
- Communicate clearly under time constraints.
- Adapt their strategies instantly when "mission circumstances" changed.
- Maintain a "mission-focused" mindset to achieve their goals.
It was fantastic to see our students demonstrate such resilience and leadership. Oulton Academy would like to extend a huge thank you to Liam for his time and for inspiring our students to aim high and consider a future in the RAF.
