Year 7 and 10 Students Inspired by Internationally Famous Artist Ian Murphy

Oulton Academy recently welcomed internationally renowned artist Ian Murphy for a day of exciting, hands-on creative workshops with our Year 7 and Year 10 students.

The sessions began with a fascinating overview of Ian’s professional portfolio. Students enjoyed a rare opportunity to view and handle original canvases created by the artist, gaining first-hand insight into the scale, depth, and detail of his work.

Following this introduction, students stepped into the role of creators. Using Ian’s signature techniques as their inspiration, they immersed themselves in a fast-paced studio environment. Throughout the day, the young artists focused on:

  • Material Experimentation: Testing different mediums and building tactile textures on paper.
  • Artistic Process: Learning the structured stages required to develop a piece of art from concept to completion.
  • Collaborative Exploration: Engaging in live work, sharing creative insights, and exchanging ideas with peers.

By the end of the day, the workshop spaces were filled with fantastic, high-quality art pieces. Our students left the session not only with unique artwork but also with valuable new techniques to incorporate into their own GCSE and Key Stage 3 projects.

Oulton Academy extends a huge thank you to Ian Murphy for delivering such an informative, energetic, and deeply inspirational day for our students.
