Year 7 Poetry Slam

Today at Oulton Academy, over 90 of our Year 7 students took part in a city-wide slam poetry competition that encouraged their skills in writing and performing their own spoken word poems.

Facilitated by acclaimed poet Andy Craven Griffiths and Authors Abroad, this one-day workshop saw learners work in groups to create and perform an original piece of slam poetry. Groups then competed to be crowned the school’s slam poetry champions and will then progress to the city-wide interschool finals.

Over 14 schools will participate in the Poetry Slam and the winning team from each school will compete in the Grand Final in March.

We would like to congratulate our Poetry Slam champions and runners-up:

SECOND PLACE: Team Emotionless - Maria C, Callum S, Kayden Miller, Jack S, Evie B, Sophie M

FIRST PLACE: Team World Leaders - Jessie T, Ava F, Evia H, William W, Mason D, Ben T

We wish you lots of luck for the Poetry Slam Grand Final in March!
